Mohamed Salah on His Liverpool Future: "More Likely to Leave Than Stay"

Mohamed Salah has revealed that he has not yet received an official contract offer from Liverpool, expressing uncertainty about his future at the club. With his current contract set to expire next summer, Salah admitted he is unsure whether he will remain at Liverpool for another season.

The Egyptian forward, who has been in outstanding form this season with 12 goals across all competitions, played a key role in Liverpool’s 3-2 comeback victory over Southampton on Sunday, scoring twice. However, following the match, Salah expressed his disappointment regarding the lack of contract discussions.

"We're nearing December and I haven’t received an official offer to stay at the club yet. Right now, I feel like I’m more likely to leave than stay," Salah told reporters. "I’ve been at the club for a long time, and there’s no place like it, but ultimately, the decision isn’t in my hands. As I’ve said before, it's December, and nothing has come up about my future yet."

He also acknowledged his strong relationship with the fans, saying, "I love the supporters, and they love me. But in the end, it’s not only up to me or the fans. We’ll have to wait and see. Of course, it’s disappointing not to have an offer on the table."

Salah, who is still focused on achieving team success this season, emphasized that he is not considering retirement yet. "I’m just concentrating on the season, aiming for the Premier League title and hopefully the Champions League. It’s disappointing, but we will see what happens," he added.

According to ESPN, discussions between Salah’s representatives and Liverpool have been positive but expectedly slow and complex. Salah’s most recent contract, signed in June 2022, made him the highest-paid player at the club. However, as it stands, he could negotiate with clubs outside of England starting January 1, when the winter transfer window opens.

While Salah has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, he quickly dismissed these rumors after Sunday’s match. He is one of three key Liverpool players whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the season, along with club captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold.
