Dabrowski, Routlife into WTA doubles final with win over Melichar-Martinez, Perez
Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand's Erin Routliffe advanced to the WTA Finals doubles final after defeating Nicole Melichar-Martinez (USA) and Ellen Perez (Australia) 7-6 (7), 6-1 in Friday's semifinal. The pair secured a hard-fought first set, with Routliffe's quick net reaction earning them set point after a frustrated Perez threw down her racket. The second set was more straightforward, with Dabrowski and Routliffe dominating to win in 1 hour, 32 minutes.
Dabrowski credited their strong partnership for the victory, noting that despite a slow start, Routliffe's solid play allowed her to take more risks and stay focused. The duo, who lost to Melichar-Martinez and Perez in last year's semifinal, emphasized the importance of communication and supporting each other in doubles.
They will now face Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend in the final, a rematch of this year's Wimbledon final, which Siniakova and Townsend won. Dabrowski is aiming to become the first Canadian to win a WTA Finals title and is excited to have advanced further than ever before in the tournament.
